Genmaicha (玄米茶) is a traditional Japanese tea made by blending green tea with toasted rice. While several styles exist, the classic ratio is approximately 1:1 bancha to rice. Because the amount of tea leaf is reduced, genmaicha naturally contains less caffeine than sencha or most other green teas. It is often referred to as “brown rice tea” or “popcorn tea” due to the presence of popped rice kernels. Common variations include the addition of matcha or other ingredients such as black soybeans.

This Genmaicha is crafted for green tea purists, combining high-grade early spring first-flush sencha with carefully toasted rice to create a refined, nutty character.

Unlike standard genmaicha, which often relies on the rice for dominant flavour, this expression retains a distinctly “green” and vegetal profile. The premium sencha remains central to the cup, offering depth, freshness, and balance alongside the warmth of toasted grain.
